Freshwater Sprints

Club captain Dónal writes: You will probably be wondering what is happening with this year’s Freshwater Sprints, which take place at Loch Tummel on October 30th. Ordinarily we would send a strong contingent to take part. However, this year as with everything else it is different. The SCRA has decided that only two members per club can attend.

Also, whoever goes will most likely have to represent the club at the SCRA AGM being held afterwards.

With this in mind, it will be a case of names out of the hat for those that wish to attend. If you would like to have the opportunity to attend the Sprints can you email me at dferrie74@gmail.com.

Club captain Dónal writes: As you will know, this year’s nominations haven’t quite gone as it normally would. It was assumed that all the Office Bearers were staying on for another year. However due to various circumstances some of us are unable to.

Social rowing times for 8-9 October

Mike B writes: I’m afraid that the tides are not good for our normal social rowing time on Saturday the 9th of October. With that in mind, the Saturday social rowing will begin at 1pm and continue until everyone has had a row.

On Sunday the 10th of October, social rowing will commence at 1:30pm. There will be only one boat (Ferry Lass) available for social rowing initially – the Maid will be in use for Youth rowing from 1:30pm, as the tides are completely unsuitable for their normal Sunday morning slot.

Enjoy the week ahead and have a great time on the water at the weekend.

North v South

Club captain Dónal writes: This coming Saturday (02 Oct) sees the annual North/South race in which we hope, nay need, to win back the coveted Trophy after last year’s defeat.

Leslie from North Queensferry accepts the trophy in January last year.

There will be two races, but only one counting towards the trophy. The first race is at 10:00 racing from North to South and the second, the trophy race, is at 10:30 racing from South to North.

The crews are as follows –
Race One: Rachel H, Andy, May, Donna and Tony
Trophy race crew: Dónal, Callum, Rory, Beth and Rachel D

As North Queensferry are hosting this year, they have invited us across for bacon/sausage/vegetarian option rolls, homemade soup, cakes and refreshments afterwards at the NQ boatyard. And the all-important trophy presentation!

Last year’s “fun race”, won by South Queensferry

So come along and cheer on your Club and help celebrate what we hope will be a glorious victory!

Social rowing from Monday 20 Sept

Mike B writes: The tides are good for us in the coming week in respect of evening rowing – however the light is beginning to be a constraint!

For Tuesday the 21st and Thursday the 23rd of September, social rowing will begin at 6pm. Sunset will be at 7:30 pm or thereabouts, so boats may need to be off the water by 8pm, depending upon how overcast the weather is!

As usual, we will have one bookable crew on each evening, with the second boat available for rowers who turn up on spec.

If you would like a space in the bookable crew on either of those evenings, please contact me on mikebreewood@gmail.com.

Weekend rowing is slightly more complex. It will not be possible to have morning rowing on Saturday the 25th of September due to the tides, however I have scheduled social rowing to take place from 1pm.

Social rowing on Sunday the 26th of September will begin, as normal, at 1pm.

Please note that on both Saturday and Sunday there are NO bookable crews – places in the boats will be allocated on a first-come first- out-in-the-boat basis!

Enjoy your rowing!
