The two crews after yesterday’s North v South trophy challenge, won by North Queensferry

North v South challenge

Just a quick post to say there are some photos on Flickr now of the two North v South races. The South won the “fun” race, while North Queensferry took the trophy back home with them.

The times were: Fun race (south to north) South Queensferry 13:12, North Queensferry 14.13; trophy race (north to south) North Queensferry 12:45, South Queensferry 13:33. Well done everyone!

The first race under way.

As it was Robert Burns Day, afterwards everyone repaired to the QRC shed to enjoy a great spread of haggis, neeps and tatties, prepared by Jenny. Peter piped in the haggis and then gave the Address.  Click here to view a video of Peter’s Address to the Haggis

To further honour the national poet, Georgina sang Scots Wha’ Hae – a rendition that won her the Burns Prize at her school the day before. Click here to view a video of Georgina singing Scots Wha’ Hae

First race of 2020

The Social Sub-Committee writes: So 2020 is off like a shot already, with our first race – the North v South challenge – happening on Saturday 25 January!!

As the main race is running south from North Queensferry, we shall be hosting the post-race social  this year.

The beautiful North v South trophy, at the moment in North Queensferry’s keeping

The date is a special one in the Scottish calendar and appropriately we’ll be having a Burns theme to our hospitality, with Peter leading in the welcome to our guests. Our own chef Jenny has been commissioned to supply some suitable ‘scran’ (food). Thanks to both for their contributions!

The main race starts from the north at 2pm, with the fun race immediately before, leaving the south at 1.30pm. Prizes are kindly sponsored by Lorna’s Forth Reflections this year, so thank you for those!

So come along to watch the best racing so far this year and cheer on the crews!! You’ll be rewarded with warm food and good cheer after (of course bring your cup)!
